About the Role:
As our Senior Manufacturing Engineer you will play a vital role in VitaminLab’s mission is to bring accessibility to personalized vitamins through our unique manufacturing efforts. Unlike traditional mass production, we use proprietary machines and equipment to manufacture small-batch orders at scale.
As a leader on the manufacturing team, you are the technical bridge between our innovative product vision and operational reality. You will lead the charge in optimizing our custom automation systems, ensuring that our "small batch" philosophy remains efficient, reliable, and scalable as we expand worldwide. This role requires a hands-on leader who can mentor a technical team while directly troubleshooting the complex mechatronics that make our personalized manufacturing possible.
What You’ll Do:
- Build Reliability: Lead and execute technical projects to stabilize and scale our manufacturing equipment, from simple conveyors to complex fully automated production lines.
- Master the Machines: Program and troubleshoot shop floor PLCs while maintaining a hands-on presence on the floor to solve mechanical and electrical puzzles.
- Champion Quality: Ensure all systems operate within our rigorous cGMP and food-grade compliance frameworks to guarantee safety and precision.
- Read the Blueprint: Interpret and update mechanical drawings and electrical schematics, ensuring our technical documentation is as precise as our formulas.
- Drive Continuous Improvement: Apply Lean Manufacturing principles and root cause analysis to eliminate bottlenecks and boost output.
- Empower the Team: Organize and implement engineering best practices, mentoring others while remaining a practical, approachable technical resource.
What You Bring:
Must-haves:
- Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, Industrial Automation, or a related field.
- 7+ years of relevant experience in manufacturing, industrial automation, machine building, or production equipment maintenance and support.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on troubleshooting ability.
- Experience managing and executing technical projects in a manufacturing setting.
- Experience with PLC troubleshooting and programming.
- Understanding of regulatory or quality requirements (cGMP, NSF etc) in food-grade or controlled production environments and ability to work within a rigorous compliance framework.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and technical documentation.
- Ability to lead people, organize and implement best practices within the team while also remaining hands-on and practical.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Strong understanding of Lean Manufacturing and principles of root cause analysis.
- Experience in a small team or startup environment that requires wearing multiple hats.
Bonus points:
- Experience in nutraceutical, pharmaceutical, or clean-room manufacturing.
- Familiarity with HMI development, Ignition SCADA, or motion control systems (steppers, VFDs).
- A Red Seal certification (Electrician, Millwright, or HVAC).
- Experience with sanitary equipment and high-speed packaging systems.

The typical starting base salary range for this position is $80,000 - $85,000 CDN.
